Directors in Jewish early childhood programs deal with a wide variety of roles and pressures. One role that is often reduced is of critical importance: the job of supervisor of staff professional development. The development of a community of learning in Jewish early childhood programs, one that encompasses teachers, children, and parents, depends largely on the supervisory approach of the director.
This course will cover the specific skills and sensitivities necessary for professional supervision of teachers as well as the development of leadership potential in teachers. Clinical supervision, developmental models, and formative evaluation methods will be included as well as orientation and hiring/firing practices. Emphasis will be placed on forming a self-motivating learning community among staff members.
