This advanced course of consideration invites engagement in the interactive relationship between theory and practice through a “hands-on” workshop approach. Indeed, from its onset and throughout, this practicum is concerned with how questions of theory, namely Jewish and educational philosophy as involving personal yet critical-minded values clarifying interpretation, serves as the “raw material” which Jewish education seeks to “translate” for its fateful purposes. Participants’ own ideas on teaching specific instances from Judaism’s ongoing debates concerning its past character and future possibility will constitute a key aspect of this exploration. Philosophy essays, literature, film, art and music will all be drawn upon in the service of our study.
