Early childhood educators may know several formats for making observations of young children and be aware of their usefulness in speaking with parents. In this class, we will explore more specific techniques and particular situations in which they can be used. Ways of making these techniques more accessible, and therefore more likely to be used, will be introduced. Emphases will be placed on using observations to develop portfolios that track individual interests as well as emergent academic disciplines. Finally, observations will be considered as a means of engaging parents with their children’s growth and development.
