Yiddish book collection donated in December 2008
January 8, 2009
Author: Nancy Nitzberg
An anonymous donation of Yiddish books was received in December; they are now cataloged and ready to circulate! The authors include many well known Yiddish writers such as Sholem Asch, Hayyim Bialik, but also translations of works by Jack London, Charles Darwin, John Stuart Mill, Oscar Wilde and Leo Tolstoy. The subject matter ranges from books on politics, popular literature, opera and music theory, to religious works. Stay tuned for an upcoming exhibition on Yiddish books published in the early 20th century, and what they says about the literary interests of Yiddish readers at that time.
