Eliyana Adler received her doctorate from Brandeis University in Modern Jewish History, and her M.A. in Women’s Studies and Near Eastern and Judaic Studies. Her expertise is in the Eastern European Jewish experience with particular interests in social history, gender, and education. Her book, In Her Hands: The Education of Jewish Girls in Tsarist Russia, came out in 2011 and was a 2011 National Jewish Book award finalist in women’s studies, and won the2011 Heldt Prize from the Association for Women in Slavic Studies. Her new project traces the trails and trials of Polish Jewish refugees in the USSR during WWII. In addition to her teaching as an adjunct faculty member at Gratz College, Dr. Adler teaches at the University of Maryland.
