Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Ruth Schapira as director of the Gratz Jewish Community High School, effective immediately.  Following an extensive search process, we found our successful candidate within our own community!

Ruth's professional life reflects more than three decades of experience in Jewish education, program development, staff development and training.  She has held professional positions in educational institutions, community organizations, volunteer organizations, and government agencies.  Ruth brings her strategic, academic, leadership and community-building skills to the position of director of JCHS.

Devoted to JCHS for 11 years, Ruth has served as director of educational services, director of academic affairs, and, most recently, as interim director of the high school.  She has also been the director of the JCHS Western and Mandell branches.  Prior to coming to Gratz College, Ruth held leadership positions at Camp Ramah in the Poconos and Ohev Shalom in Bucks County.

Ruth pursued her undergraduate and graduate education at The American University in Washington, DC and New York University.  She is currently a doctoral candidate in the EdD program in Jewish Education at Gratz College.

A prolific writer, Ruth has a blog about Jewish teens, Jewish education and parenting.  Visit her blog here.

Ruth's community involvement includes membership on the boards of Interfaithways, North American Association of Community & Congregational Hebrew High Schools and Beth El Synagogue.  She has long been involved with Hadassah, serving in many capacities, including chapter president and member of National Hadassah's Strategic Planning Committee.  For her contributions, Ruth was honored with Hadassah's Leadership Award.

Please join us in congratulating Ruth on her new position.  Ruth may be reached at rschapira@gratz.edu or 215-635-7300 x 118.
