Certificate in Jewish Education

This 18-credit certificate is designed for those seeking a first credential in the field of Jewish education. The certificate is designed to raise the level of Jewish knowledge and teaching skills of those already teaching in supplementary schools who have little or no formal background in Jewish studies or Jewish education. Admission to this program requires that students have a bachelor’s degree or permission from the dean.

The Certificate in Jewish Education is available both as an on-campus and as an online option

Requirements for the Certificate

This 18-credit certificate consists of three courses in Jewish education and three courses in Jewish studies. Students may choose to concentrate the three education courses in early childhood or special education. If this option is chosen, the area of specialization will be noted on the certificate. Courses taken in the certificate program may subsequently be applied toward the fulfillment of requirements for master’s degree programs at Gratz College.

Advanced Standing

Students who have previously taken graduate level course work that has not already been applied toward a credential may transfer one course in each area, and thus receive a maximum of six credits in advanced standing.
