Gratz College Privacy Policy
Gratz College respects the privacy and security of its users. Our goal is to provide you with a personalized Internet experience that delivers the information, resources, and services that are most relevant and helpful to you. In order to achieve this goal, we sometimes collect information during your visits to understand what differentiates you from other users.
In order to ensure our commitment to your privacy, this statement discloses the privacy policies for the entire Gratz College website. Additional terms and conditions, if any, regarding the collection and use of your information may also be provided to you before you sign up for special services (i.e., E-mail Lists, discussion groups). Within this document, you will learn what personally identifiable information of yours is collected, how and when we might use your information, how we protect your information, who has access to your information, and how you can correct any inaccuracies in the information.
The Information We May Collect:
Gratz College collects certain information from and about its users in three ways -- directly from the user, from our Web server logs and with cookies.
User-Supplied Information: When you sign up for a service, such as for e-newsletters or to register for classes or events, we may ask you for your name, E-mail address, and some other personal information. The more accurate information you volunteer, the better we are able to customize your Gratz College website experience. Additionally, if there are any charges for services we provide, we may request credit card information from you to implement the transaction.
Server Log Information: When you visit an Internet Web site, you disclose certain information about yourself, such as your Internet (TCP/IP) address, the time of your visit, and the referring location (e.g., the Site or page that offered a link to a Gratz College page). Gratz College, like many other sites, records this basic information about visits to its site.
"Cookies": In order to offer and provide a customized, personal service, Gratz College may use cookies to store and help track your information. For example, we may use cookies to help remind us of who you are and to deliver content and services based on your account information. In addition, Gratz College partner networks may issue cookies when serving links, services, or advertisements. Partner networks include other Associations, Foundations, Institutions, Sponsors, and Service Providers.
Cookies are simply pieces of information that are sent to your browser from a Web server and stored on your computer's hard drive. The use of cookies is relatively standard and you will likely find them used on most other major Websites. Most browsers are initially set up to accept cookies. If you prefer, you can reset your browser either to notify you when you receive a cookie, or to refuse to accept cookies. You should understand that certain areas of many sites might not function properly, and will be less efficient, if you set your browser to not accept cookies or if you reject a cookie.
How and When Information Is Used:
We use information in different ways, depending on the type of information:
User-Supplied Information: This information is used for purposes such as personalization and verification. Examples of user-supplied information are your name, address, phone number, E-mail address, and other demographic information. This information can be used creating an individualized Internet environment, selective E-mail user groups, and targeted educational opportunities. Additionally, we may collect credit card data for payment of special events, dues, subscriptions, or other goods and services. This information is collected and processed on a secure, third party verified server, to be used solely by Gratz College.
Web Server Logs: This information helps us identify which areas of our site are of interest to our visitors. Gratz College also collects the Internet (TCP/IP) addresses of its visitors for the purposes of system administration and to report aggregate information concerning site usage, to our members, management, and partners. This information is typically regarded as survey data. For example, this information can be used to determine the percentage of international visitors to our Website.
Cookies: We use "cookies" to let you use our services more easily and to let us keep track of certain statistical information that helps us improve our site. Cookies allow us to save passwords and preferences for you so that you won't have to re-enter them the next time you visit.
How We Protect Your Information:
The privacy and protection of your personal information are vitally important to us. Any statistics regarding your Gratz College Website usage that may be reviewed by our own management or provided to prospective or existing partners, are provided in the aggregate only and do not include any personally identifiable information about any individual user. When products or services are purchased on the site through the use of a credit card, individual credit card information is processed via a secure, third-party server and is not otherwise disclosed outside of Gratz College. Any person, whether a Gratz College employee or a third party we have retained, who needs access to your personal information in order to fulfill your request for a product or service is not permitted to use or disclose that information for any other purpose.
Your access to some services and content is password protected. You are responsible for maintaining the secrecy of any password you set up, and we recommend that you do not divulge it to anyone. Gratz College will never ask you for your password in an unsolicited phone call or in an unsolicited E-mail. If applicable, you should remember to sign out of your Gratz College account or service at the end of each session. You may also wish to close your browser window when you have finished your work. This is to ensure that others cannot access your personal information and correspondence if you share a computer with someone else or are using a computer in a public place like a library or Internet cafe.
Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. Accordingly, despite our efforts to protect your personal information, Gratz College cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us, or to or from our online products or services. You transmit all such information at your own risk. However, once we receive your transmission, we will make our best effort to ensure its security on our systems.
You should remember that whenever you voluntarily disclose personal information online, such as on message boards, through E-mail, discussion groups, or in chat areas, your information could be viewed and used by others. You need to decide whether you are comfortable with disclosing your own information online through these media.
Who Has Access to the Information:
Except as described below, when you are at the Gratz College website and are asked for personal information in connection with a product or a service, you share that information only with Gratz College and the authorized agent(s) it has retained to implement these transactions. Beyond this limited and secure transactional context, Gratz College does not make personal information available to any third parties except as follows:
- Occasionally, we make our mailing list available for purchase to select partners -- those parties together with whom we offer certain of our products and services -- for the distribution of informational material. These partners have been screened by Gratz College for relevancy and are granted a one-time use of the addresses. You have the ability to opt out of this mailing list at any time by sending an e-mail to webmaster@gratz.edu. This opt out will only pertain to third party mailings, and not mailings originating from Gratz College.
- Where one of our products or services is offered in conjunction with another named organization or company, it may be necessary for us to share your personal information with that company in order to provide such "co-branded" services to you. If you choose to share your data with a provider of a co-branded service, you should understand that those providers are not subject to this privacy policy and may have separate privacy and data collection practices. Gratz College has no control over and accepts no liability for these providers' practices. We recommend that you review the privacy and/or use policies for each of these providers. If you do not want your data to be shared with our co-provider, you can prevent the transfer of such data by choosing not to use that particular service. In some instances, it may not be clear as to who is joining with Gratz College to offer a co-branded product or service. In those instances where a link has been made directly from Gratz College Website and a separate privacy policy cannot be identified, Gratz College privacy policy will remain in force.
- Gratz College may disclose personal information when we believe in good faith that the law requires it, or that it is necessary to protect the terms under which this site may be used.
How to Correct Inaccuracies:
If you use a Gratz College service, we may send you a confirmation e-mail confirming your new account and/or service. The message will be sent to the address that you supplied us and will describe ways for you to correct, or otherwise change or delete, the account information provided. Remember to keep the confirmation E-mail, as it will also contain information that will help you in case you run into problems accessing our services.
We welcome any questions or comments you have about Gratz College site, including this privacy policy; please direct them to webmaster@gratz.edu. Please check our privacy policy periodically, as any changes we may make in the future will be posted here.
