Satell Trip: Day 8
Day 8: Thursday, June 29, 2006
(Photos posted below)
We began the day by going to a cave outside Beit Guvrin, an archaelogical dig site. There, most of the Fellows crawled through extremely small tunnels like some Jewish people during the Bar Kochba period had done 2000 years ago. It was quite small and so a few of us were scared away.
After, we spent time digging for ancient pottery at Beit Guvrin. The site, a Tel (area where cities were built on top of each other), was amazing and most Fellows found small pieces of pottery. While we were there, someone from another group even found a perfume bottle - intact! When we left, we got some pottery to take home.
Once we had picked up our Israeli friends from Netivot, our Partnership city, we made our way over to a Beduin tent near Masada. We enjoyed a leisurely camel ride, great dinner, and an explanation of Beduin activities in the modern world. The tea and coffee were wonderful!
