Kehillah of Old York Road

There’s a special community in Montgomery County where Jewish life is flourishing; where families can walk to synagogue on Shabbat morning; where there are some of the oldest and newest congregations in North America. It’s the kind of place where children twirl around the ice rink on winter afternoons and families dance together in celebrations. The local bakery exudes the aroma of fresh-baked challah and area supermarkets provide an array of kosher foods.

Nowhere else in suburban Philadelphia can one find eight congregations with such a variety of worship options within a five-mile radius as here on the Old York Road corridor. In buildings grand to intimate, our 8 synagogues offer Shabbat and holiday services, daily minyanim, Torah study, chavurah-style alternative services and more. Each synagogue runs its own educational programs including religious schools and adult education as well as social service opportunities. Culturally, our congregations are a community treasure, hosting international Jewish art exhibits, inspirational choral concerts and speakers of local, national and global relevance. No matter what your denomination or stage in life, you will find a rich array of opportunities for worship and spiritual exploration here.

This is the community represented by the Kehillah of Old York Road, and we’d love for you to join us. We’re a partnership whose mission is to reach out to involve families in Jewish life. The Kehillah comprises the people and institutions along Old York Road (Route 611) including Cheltenham Township, Jenkintown Borough and Abington Township. We’re the synagogues, educational and social service agencies that enrich Jewish life for all ages. Look for our programming throughout the year.
