Satell Teen Fellowship Israel Trip 2008: Day 4
Sunday, June 22, 2008Northern Exposure
Dear parents and friends,
Today, we woke up in the morning at a quarter to seven, and brushed our teeth. Then we had some orange juice at breakfast that was still sour from our toothpaste. Then we went to Metula, the most northern Jewish settlement in Israel. We saw the border with Lebanon and met some soldiers patrolling the area, and took a lot of pictures. We had lunch at a fish restaurant and ate fish watermelon. Then we boarded “Jeep Awesome” and listened to some awesome Israeli reggae with an awesome Israeli driver while bumping up and down on our awesome little red wagon. At a point in the middle of the ride, we jumped in the Jordan River.
After re-jeeping, we traversed the Golan and stopped at an ancient flour mill to eat some slightly less fishy melon and learn about ancient cultures. Some inter-jeep water wars culminated as our speedometer-less jeep used its awesome magic to soak the other jeeps. Then we went to the Syrian border, where the UN patrol headquarters was located. After talking a bit about Israel’s role in the Arab world, we went to our campsite in the Golan and enjoyed some melon that was less fishy still! Deciding against setting up tents, we slept under the stars, sharing our beds with the native wildlife of the immediate area. And when some members of our group decided to have a giggle fest all night, little sleep was had by all (this blog, clearly, is the result of the aforementioned sleepless night).
Good night and good luck.
