ADVANCED BEGINNERS

INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED
The student will learn the declension of nouns and prepositions and master the most functional grammatical items necessary for Hebrew conversation. S/he will attain the ability to read easy Hebrew newspapers and short stories.

ADVANCED HEBREW
This class consists of three parts: conversation in Hebrew, a review of the new vocabulary used during conversation in the previous class, a lesson in language- challenges the students have had during our sessions, and reading for vocabulary and comprehension.

Until the middle of the 20th century, Yiddish was the international language of Jews from Central and Eastern Europe. Today, experts estimate there are between 1 million and 2 million native Yiddish speakers in the world, but only about 500,000 speak it at home. Educators like Rita Ratson, Yiddish program coordinator and instructor at Gratz College, are determined to keep the Yiddish language and culture alive. Whether you want to learn a bissel Yiddish or become fluent, you’ll find the right level course for you. Classes currently range from beginners to intermediate, complete with folk songs and literature.

Yiddish I
Enter the world of Yiddish in a course that develops basic vocabulary, including present tense verbs as well as sentence structure, and beginning competency in speaking, reading and writing. Course includes study of Yiddish folk songs. Previous knowledge of the alphabet is not assumed.

Continuing study of vocabulary, as well as past and future tenses.  Students will increase competency in reading, writing and basic vocabulary building in order to continue developing simple conversational skills. Study of Yiddish folk songs will continue.
