After the Hebrew Primer - Where Do We Go From Here? (Gr. 4-7)

Authentic & meaningful prayer can be difficult to achieve, let alone to teach. Once our students have mastered the basics of Hebrew decoding, many prayer teachers have similar goals; we want our students to read the Hebrew prayers with fluency, find personal meaning in them, & have some idea of what they are reading. The practical question becomes, “How can we achieve all of these goals in a limited amount of time?” Participants in this course will explore an approach that combines reading skills with some Hebrew vocabulary with discussions & affective experiences. From techniques for  reviewing phonics & reaching fluent phrasing to methods that convey siddur (prayerbook) Hebrew, to explorations of Jewish ethics & meaningful worship experiences, you will learn to teach both kavanah (“the art of prayer”) & keva (“the science of prayer”).
