Gratz College Breaks Ground on Historic Bala Cynwyd Properties

Gratz College announces the start of construction on its Bala Cynwyd campus. The construction plan designed by OZ Collaborative and to be executed by Caritas Construction consolidates properties at 327 Levering Mill Road and 382 Bala Avenue into one parcel with the creation of a two-story, 860-square foot glass atrium. 

Elie Wiesel Archive, Crown Jewel of Gratz College’s New Digital Collections Platform

Gratz has been selected by the Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity to host and curate the world’s first digital archive dedicated to the life’s work of Elie Wiesel, Nobel laureate and pivotal public figure in Holocaust education and remembrance. The archive will provide freely available, searchable access to scholars, students, humanitarians, and the public-at-large.

Gratz College Launches the Rebecca Gratz Digital Collection

Gratz College announces the launch of the Rebecca Gratz Digital Collection, in memory of Prof. Dianne Ashton, who passed in 2022. The freely accessible Collection contains scans and searchable transcriptions of over 800 letters to and from Rebecca Gratz, the leading Jewish woman of nineteenth century American Judaism.

GRATZ NAMES NEW PRESIDENT, CREATES CHANCELLOR POSITION

After a rigorous nationwide search, the Board of Governors of Gratz College has unanimously selected Dr. Zev Eleff as the college’s new president. He will succeed Dr. Paul Finkelman, who served as president of Gratz College for four years. 
 

MAUS AUTHOR ART SPIEGELMAN HEADLINES HOLOCAUST TEACH-IN

MELROSE PARK, Pa.—Art Spiegelman, the Pulitzer Prize-winning artist, illustrator and author of Maus: A Survivor’s Tale, will speak Sunday, March 7, 2021, during the biennial Arnold and Esther Tuzman Memorial Holocaust Teach-In at Gratz College. The entire Teach-In program will be presented online.

Seven renowned Holocaust scholars have joined a newly established advisory board for Gratz College’s Holocaust and Genocide Studies Program. Members include some of the most distinguished academics and prominent leaders in the areas of Holocaust history, commemoration and genocide prevention.

Recent program growth and increased enrollment have prompted the Board of Governors at Gratz College to announce an expansion and reorientation of the college’s senior staff. At the conclusion of the 2020-21 academic year, President Paul Finkelman will become Chancellor of the College and the Haym Solomon Distinguished Professor of History. This new position will facilitate continued growth of Gratz by allowing Dr. Finkelman to focus on strategic planning, development, new partnerships with other institutions, and expansion of Gratz’s academic footprint. Dr. Finkelman will continue serving as president until a successor is in place.
