HIAS Pennsylvania’s June 2022 Advocacy Event
June 14, 2022, 7:00 - 8:00 pm ET
Join us for a discussion in commemoration of the SS St. Louis, a ship that sailed from Nazi Germany in 1939 with nearly 900 Jewish refugees who had visas to enter Cuba.
The St. Louis was turned away from Cuba upon arrival, refused entry by the United States, and ultimately turned back to Europe where nearly one third of the passengers were captured and executed by the Nazis.
Gratz College Professor Paul Finkelman will share his knowledge about the doomed voyage in the context of US immigration history, and then will participate in a Q&A with Executive Director of HIAS PA, Cathryn Miller-Wilson, about how this event and its context are being relived now, and where we go from here.
