The debate about Jedwabne (2000-2002) in postcommunist Poland is considered as the most pivotal moment in the attempts at the deconstruction of antisemitism and the emergence of critical history writing about the Holocaust in the entire post-communist region.  However, by 2010s, (ethno)nationalist Holocaust memory, rejecting the Western model of memorialization of the Holocaust of the 1990s have fully developed in Poland and other states of the region. This course will focus on the distinct historical traditions of antisemitism in shaping politics of memory of the Holocaust between 1989 and the present. In addition, this course will examine how the current post-October 7 global events have impacted antisemitic discourses and memorialization of the Holocaust in Poland and beyond.
