EDU 549 - Differentiation & Unit Design
This course is designed as an intensive overview of unit design principles and practices in diverse classrooms. Using the scholarship of McTighe, Wiggins, and Tomlinson, we examine how effective unit design and differentiation can develop and deepen students’ understanding of important ideas. In Part I, we internalize the logic of backwards design and foundational components of differentiation. In Part II, we determine how to decompose content standards into desired results that enhance student meaning making. In Part III, we evaluate how differentiated assessments can be used as valid evidence of student learning. Finally, in Part IV, we design a learning plan that supports diverse learners and learning within the classroom.
