This course will provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the complexities surrounding the education of students with low-incidence disabilities that affect a small percentage of the population. Students will gain insight into the challenges and considerations involved in providing effective education within the least restrictive environment, including problem-solving strategies, research-based instructional practices for K-12, and the provision of itinerant and related services. The role of the transdisciplinary team, including family members, in providing services will be emphasized. Coursework will also encompass creating and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and issues of inclusion, transition services, social-emotional learning, and independent living skills.
