HGS 561/761 - Holocaust Denial and Abuse

In this course, we will study the history and persistence of Holocaust denial and distortion from a global perspective. We will discuss the motivation, methods and dangers of the often subtle attacks on historic events; and students will learn to recognize and argue against manipulation and denial of events as contrasted with the historical record. Students will use primary sources that include the internet, films, interviews, and other materials to facilitate a better understanding of this phenomenon. As the lives of the last survivors, liberators, and eyewitnesses draw to a close, it is critical that educators and other informed voices are capable of identifying and reacting to Holocaust denial, abuse and distortion.(Modern)
