HGS 564/764 - The Holocaust and Transitional Justice
Drawing upon interdisciplinary perspectives from history, political science, law, sociology, and psychology, students will engage in an in-depth exploration of the Holocaust's profound impact on transitional justice processes worldwide. This course will analyze the development and evolution of transitional justice frameworks and mechanisms such as truth commissions, criminal prosecutions, reparations, memorialization, and institutional reform. It will also challenge students to evaluate the effectiveness of transitional justice approaches by investigating how they impact collective memory, conflict resolution, and societal transformation.
