JST 537 - The History of Modern Israel
A long time before the state of Israel was established, the idea of a Jewish state had already driven a variety of controversial and emotional responses inside the Jewish people and outside of it. The controversial responses did not stop after the state of Israel established and continue until our time. In this course we will examine the history of Israel from its foundation until the 1990s in the context of its unique development, the Arab-Israel conflict, its immigration, the international interference it has faced and its social, economic and religious changes. We will focuses on the uniqueness of Israel and the challenges of it being a Jewish national, democratic state.
