This course will direct students to reflect on the long past of Jewish historical writing, and their own place in that history as future scholars of Jewish studies. Topics include: The history of Jewish historical writing, the relationship between Jewish historical writing and Jewish memory, the uses of the Jewish past as a resource for the present, and some recent debates within Jewish historical scholarship.
