JST 739 - Men in Black, Women in Color II: Gender, Culture, and Society in Orthodox Jewish Life
This doctoral seminar explores the role of gender in shaping Orthodox Jewish life across history, culture, religion, and contemporary society. Through engagement with historical scholarship, ethnography, memoir, literature, and digital media, students will examine how gender shapes Jewish experiences, identities, institutions, and cultural production. Students will critically evaluate competing scholarly approaches and contribute original research to the growing field of Orthodox Jewish gender studies.
