IFL 623 - Interfaith Liturgy (formerly REL 623)

The three Abrahamic faiths of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam all share a common belief in the sanctity and meaning of prayer, whether we pray in Hebrew, Latin, Arabic, or English. This course will focus on the structure and meaning of the Sabbath liturgy in Judaism, the Roman Catholic Mass in Christianity, and the five daily prayers in Islam. Prayer themes common to all three faiths will be studied including penitential prayer, liturgical creeds, petitionary prayer, scripture in liturgy, as well as the Jewish and Christian roots of Islamic prayer
